CSE faculty and students are focused on using mobile devices – such as cell phones – for data collection and remote diagnostics to help improve the lives of underserved populations, especially in the developing world. Two applications include an HIV treatment program in sub-Saharan Africa where 300 phones will be used to reach 2 million people with home-based testing and counseling, and a mobile technology to collect data on missing people from on-the-ground in Haiti.
