E. Russell Alexander (1928-2006), nationally renowned epidemiologist and founding faculty member of the School. In the course of his career Russ spent 10 years (in four separate tours) at the CDC in various infectious disease prevention roles and 8½ years as chief epidemiologist at Public Health-Seattle & King County. He also spent 18 years at the University of Washington, in both Pediatrics and Preventative Medicine (which subsequently became the SPHCM) and was the founding chair of the School's Department of Epidemiology.
